Summary:

Research project aimed at boosting cooperation between Spain and Japan in nanotechnology and new materials to meet environmental and sustainable development and its application to improve  energy efficiency in the production, storage, transport or conversion of renewable energy systems or new systems of more efficient and sustainable use of water. The aims of this work are 1) ultrasensitive detection and monitoring of environmental pollutants in water and 2) design and construction of multi-functional water treatment systems, based on nanostructurated platforms, in order to construct fundamental technologies to keep the safety of water environment. Specifically, we will study the following:

1) Ultrasensitive-sensing of various environmental pollutants in water by using hybrid nanostructurated sensors based on diamond electrodes, Lab-on-a-chip and functionalized nanoparticles.

2) Construction of multi-functional water treatment systems composed of photocatalysts and using the above sensors for quality control.
